Rhydd Gardens Open Day

Sue and I are fortunate enough to live at The Rhydd Gardens which is right on the northern border of the Hanleys and has a lovely walled garden. We are not really close enough to Hanley Swan to justify being part of the village open gardens but we do get asked from time to time if we open to the public, and people often tell us they had always wondered what was behind the walls you can see from the road.

The National Gardens Scheme encourages people to open their gardens for charity so we thought it only right for us to join in under their auspices. So we are open this year 1200-1600 on May 22nd and September 18th, entrance is £5 (to the NGS Charities) and we aim to have lovely weather and teas on the lawn.

We are located on the B4211 opposite Cliffey Wood (WR8 0AB), there will be some parking on site, but it is a bit limited so if you are more able-bodied you should be able to park in the nearby lay-by and follow the signs down the side of the field to our side entrance. You can just turn up or book in advance on the NGS website: https://ngs.org.uk/view-garden/42201

We have our own website – currently under construction and not yet finished – https://www.rhyddgardens.co.uk with some more details and a map.

Tree Planting (Mar 2020) – Updated

Some 400 trees will be planted in Hanley Swan on Saturday, 7th March starting at 10am, as part of the council’s project to make the parish carbon neutral by 2025. For this scheme, Howard Hutchings has kindly made land available in a field behind his house, The Grange, Roberts End, and native broadleaf saplings with stakes and shelters are being generously donated by Steve Harvey, founder of the Let’s Plant carbon neutral company.
