The Hanleys Monthly Café and Market

Since 2007 the Café and Market has generated funds that have been used to fund community projects.

The aim is to:

  • create an event where local residents can meet and enjoy refreshments
  • provide a community marketplace to enable local producers, craftspeople, artisans, refreshment providers and traders to access affordable retail space for sale to the general public
  • give local crafts people an opportunity to demonstrate their skills
  • provide the opportunity for charities to fund raise and / or make people aware of their cause
  • generate income to invest in local community projects

The income, mentioned in the last bullet point, comes from the rental of stalls, the raffle, the quiz and book sales (all the books being donated).

All the profits made by the café market are donated to support projects in the local area. Last year funds were distributed as follows:

  • Hedge Trimmer for the Pond Wardens

  • To Cheryl Phelps for duck food

  • Donation to ARCOS

  • Community Art Project

  • Hanley Castle and Upton Cricket Club

  • Village show for 2013

  • Village Hall small hall refurbishment

  • Parish Link magazine

The latest innovation is the sale of hand crafted jute bags in aid of Worcester Cancer Aid. The bags themselves, the labels on those bags and the design on the labels have all been donated by local residents/businesses.
