The Big Lunch (2010)

Sunday 18th July 2010

Hanley Swan Village Green

What time?

12noon to 4.00pm

Why not?! – A chance for the community to part together

The Big Lunch is an initiative of the Eden project and has become a national date in the diary.  Some of us thought it would be a good way to bring together the many groups of our community, so we have the backing of the Parish Council and permission to hold an event on the Hanley Swan Village Green, one of our main, but underused, assets and the Swan pub has agreed to be involved.

It is planned to have:

  • A tented village of stalls provided by the different organisations in the community
  • Pig roast and barbecue – drinks at the pub
  • Competitions: Fancy dress for Under 11s; Dance for Teens; Tug o’War for any age
  • Music, possibly some local bands
  • No charge for entry
  • Bring your own picnic, or buy at the green – bring your own picnic table or rug

“Basically, it’s a party in your street, in everyone’s street. On 18th July we’re asking the people of Britain to stop what they’re doing and sit down to lunch together. Why? Well for lots of reasons really but mainly to put a smile back on Britain’s face.” Eden Project
